Membership of Associate Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare is limited to members of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. There are currently over 70 members of APGAW. There are over 65 Associate Groups which include some of the major animal welfare bodies in the Britain. The overall running of the group is the responsibility of two Peers and a cross party group of 4 MPs, led by the Chair, Eric Martlew MP. Further information about the Officers of the Group can be found here.

Parliamentarians

Animal welfare has wide-spread voting appeal and is of great concern to the general public. Politician’s mailbags are still dominated by letters on a variety of animal welfare issues. Members of APGAW have the added advantage of receiving concise information on the most topical issues which no doubt helps MPs and Peers deal more effectively with the queries of their constituents.

We hope that this website will encourage increased and more active involvement from both MPs and Peers. APGAW aims to host a meeting each month and details will be advertised on the events page. APGAW welcomes attendance from members and non members alike. We would also be pleased to offer any help we can on an individual basis on particular animal welfare concerns. APGAW membership is to all Members of both houses. For further details on joining APGAW for MPs and Peers please email Marisa Heath.

Associates

There are over 400 Associate Parliamentary Groups and All-Party Parliamentary Groups (often known as APGs or APPGs) currently approved by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. Associate Parliamentary Groups are made up of mainly backbench Members of both houses and may also, as with APGAW, include members from outside Parliament. Associate Parliamentary Groups cover subjects which have general, cross-party appeal and are formulated as one of many ways to increase the influence of backbenchers in the formation of legislation and government policy. Associate Parliamentary Groups "play a part in the flexible pattern of consultation that Governments nowadays employ in order to sound out views both inside and outside Parliament." More information about Associate Parliamentary Groups and the rules and regulations concerning them, can be found here.

The Directory of Associate Members

Please click here to enter the directory of associate members. These are just some of the organisations that are current members of APGAW and have asked to be included on a directory of  members.

Please note: these groups are members of APGAW because they campaign on animal welfare issues, however, APGAW may not endorse all of their policies. APGAW is a diverse cross-party group and includes membership of organisations across the animal welfare spectrum. The provision of a link on this page should not be understood to indicate that all membersof APGAW agree on the campaigning aims of these organisations. Furthermore, these sites are not under the control of APGAW and therefore the group cannot be held responsible for their content.

If you are a member of APGAW and would like to be included on this directory, please email the APGAW admin secretary.
